Regarding Xbox 360’s and PS360 controllers

Recently I have been getting a lot of email regarding either the Xbox 360 laptop (as usual) and lately the PS360 controller. I find it funny that people hate the SIXAXIS (and probably soon the Dualshock 3) so much that they keep looking for a Xbox-y alternative. My suggestion would be to just buy an Xbox 😉

While I appreciate the interest and do indeed at least read every email I need to mention that due to a backlog of existing projects it is hard for me to take on new work at this time. Here are some suggestions in the meantime:

PS360 controller – Check out the how-to article I did about it for Engadget. This controller projects takes me a good solid day to do and when I have done it I have to charge way too much. If you’re willing to wait a month and pay as much as a system costs for a controller then maybe I can help.

Nintendo and other classic system portablesPut a request to buy one on my forums, either in Forum 42 or Trading Post. The folks on there have made great stuff, and often times things I have yet to conquer (Gamecube, Dreamcast) Plus many of them are college-age and could probably use some extra modding money.

Xbox 360 laptops – Due to the challenges I can maybe squirt out two a year. Considering I haven’t quite finished the 3rd one, it’ll be a while before I’d consider another. Of course you can always read my How-To article on that for Engadget.

Hopefully this clears up any burning questions of why I haven’t answered every email. Again, thanks for continuning to visit Benheck.com, and maybe someday if I grow some more arms, or get some help, I can crank out more of the stuff people love.

  1. DEAR FRIEND,
I TRIED SO MUCH TO CONTACT YOU BY MAIL AND OTHER, I REALLY NEED A SNESP, I WANT TO BUY IT FROM YOU I CAN GIVE YOU 400 $ FOR ONE IF YOU WANT!
PLEASE CONTACT ME TO TALK ABOUT THIS!!
    SEE U SOON (PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE!!)

  2. If i ever get a ps3 which is very doubtful the only way id play it is if i had one of these controllers. its very doubtful i would ever be able to build it myself. since ps3 can already run linux and i think they are updating it to run windows it might be possible to download the 360 wired controller driver onto ps3 and use it via usb. whatcha think ben is that possible?

  3. Full operating systems on the PS3 run slow as crap and you won’t have full access to the GPU. Even if you are using the 360 controller on Windows on the PS3 you won’t be running PS3 games on the Windows partition so it’s kind of pointless.

It’s a ton of work arounds and coding for not much, if any, worthy return for your effort.

  4. “Plus many of them are college-age and could probably use some extra modding money”

    Yup! Thanks Ben!

  6. I would love to see an Xbox 360 controller with the PS2/PS3’s D-pad. It desperately needs a better one.

  7. I just want to say that ben deserves some kind of an award, for being a genius. And Ben, if you read this, I suggest that you get in touch with microsoft and sell your design, you could probably make a TON of money if you consulted for major gaming companies. However, thats just my opinion. Keep on designing Ben.

  8. oh and by the way, will someone just up front put a price down on how much the xbox 360s laptops cost? just comment and put $#####, thanks
